Everybody loves a waffle cone. It’s always a treat to have these made at home too. Homemade waffle cones are a healthy and scrumptious way to create amazing cones to hold your homemade ice cream scoops. Needless to say, kids adore ice cream cones, and by turning regular, processed and refined carb-loaded cones into a healthy homemade waffle mix, you actually control the ingredients that go into your families’ tummies.
Just make sure you pick out healthy ingredients, and cook each cone for least 1-2 minutes before you turn off the waffle cone marker, because it is important to let the batter get a firm consistency before you lift it out. You can always replace or add any more ingredients that you feel add more flavour to your waffles.
Here is a list of all the ingredients you will need to make waffle cones from scratch:
- ¼ tsp. salt
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- ½ stick unsalted and melted butter
- ¼ cups milk
You begin by preheating your waffle cone maker according to the usual instructions you follow, our advice is to begin with the third heat setting, and you can always make adjustments according to how much brownness and crispiness you want to give to your cones.
Take a small bowl, and toss in the flour and salt, and then, set aside this bowl while you mix in the other ingredients. Take another bowl, and add in the sugar, and two eggs, now, take a whisk and continue beating until the eggs have turned a lighter colour and the sugar is nicely blended into the mixture. This shouldn’t take you more than 2-3 minutes. Then slowly, whisk in the melted butter, and continue mixing until the ingredients are fully combined. Now, add in the milk and continue stirring until the paste is smooth and creamy.
Time to mix in all the ingredients, and take a spoon to lift up ¼ cup of the waffle batter and toss into the waffle cone maker. You need a small spatula to spread the batter evenly across the surface of the cone maker. Now, shut the lid and allow the waffle cones to be toasted for at least 1 minutes. Then, lift up the lid and examine the brownness of the cones. If you want them to be browner or crispier, you can increase the heat to setting #4 and continue heating for another 2 minutes.
Without wasting any time, take off the cone from the cone maker, and use a cone roller, which usually comes with the device, to shape the waffle into a cone. Be sure to set its shape by holding the cone for a couple seconds.
You can then eat this deliciously made cone with a number of things. Whether you decide to pair it with some delicious ice-cream or perhaps add it to some fruits, the waffle cone is sure to leave you asking for more!
